Champagne soap in the Emmet Street Creations store on Etsy
I’m not a big alcohol drinker but I have a weakness for champagne. I love the pop of the cork, the way it hisses as it’s poured into a flute glass and the way the effervescent bubbles tickle my nose. Most of all, I love the dry crisp scent of a freshly poured glass. For me, that scent brings back memories of celebrations, happy times with friends and romantic evenings.
You know what I don’t like about champagne? The morning after. The stuff gives me a nasty hangover that makes me regret all of my life choices up to that point. (Perhaps because I can’t stop myself from overindulging when I get the chance.)
So, when I discovered a phthalate free champagne fragrance oil from one of my favorite soap suppliers, I knew I had to use it. This scent does not disappoint! It’s clean and airy with a hint of sweetness. It’s like having a fancy party in your shower without the nasty hangover. Made with our blend of skin loving olive, rice bran, coconut, palm and avocado oils, this soap gently cleans your skin as the scent dances around your nose.

Let’s face it, in the art of soap making, things don’t always go according to plan. I’ve made my fair share of less than perfect soap. I often experiment with color combinations and new techniques and sometimes these experiments result in soaps that don’t make the cut for their own listing in my shop. The colors may not look as pretty as they did in my head, the scent might not be as strong as I wanted or I might have messed up the design I was trying to achieve. But no matter what the flaw might be, the soap is still perfectly good at performing its duty of keeping you clean while nourishing your skin.
I usually hold the “oops” batches for my own personal use but now I’m offering them to you in a mystery soap sampler at a discounted price. For only $15, you’ll receive a bag filled with five different full size bars of soap adding up to one pound or more. The contents of your sampler will remain a mystery until you open your package but a list of the soaps and ingredients will be included in the bag.
The mystery soap sampler is an exciting way to save money while stocking up on an item you use every day!

Handmade Peppermint Soap in the Emmet Street Creations store on Etsy
Are you a night owl? When your alarm goes off at the crack of dawn (or earlier), do you chronically hit the snooze button in the hopes that five more minutes will magically make you feel rested and ready to tackle the day? Yep, me too.
That’s why I like to keep a bar of peppermint soap in my shower. Peppermint isn’t just a fun scent for the holidays. It’s fresh clean scent is wonderfully eye-opening any time of the year. When 5 A.M. rolls around and I’m faced with another day in the cubicle jungle, a hot shower surrounded by the clean scent of peppermint is just the thing to get me going.

Blue agave in the Emmet Street Creations store on Etsy
A few months ago, I wrote about using indigo powder to color soap naturally. One of the batches I tried used a scent called “blue agave.” Unfortunately, the soap design had some issues that I wasn’t happy with. As it cured, the indigo color bled into the white portions of the soap and I just didn’t like the way it looked.
Despite this imperfection, the batch sold out quickly because the scent was out of this world! Blue Agave is a zesty unisex scent featuring notes of citrus, apple, black currant and lily of the valley. One loyal customer says it has the same citrus notes as “Be Delicious” by DKNY.
I decided to remake the soap using a much simpler, one color design and I’m so happy with the way it turned out! It’s made with my favorite blend of olive, rice bran, coconut, palm and avocado oils to leave your skin gently cleansed and feeling pampered.

Many soap makers use botanical additives to add visual interest or exfoliating properties to their soap. Lavender buds and rose petals sprinkled on top of a bar add texture and beauty. Ground walnut shells or orange peels mixed throughout a soap can add exfoliation.
My additive of choice lately has been ground juniper berries. Juniper berries are the tiny little pine cone of the juniper bush. They’re used to flavor gin and meat and their piney scent makes them a wonderful addition to potpourri. When ground up in soap, they act is a gentle exfoliant.
I use ground juniper berries in my best selling Rosemary Mint & Juniper soap. I buy the juniper berries whole and use a spice grinder to grind them into a course powder. I add a couple of tablespoons of the powder to the soap batter just before I pour it into the mold.
The result is a lovely speckled soap that’s wonderful for smoothing out rough patches on feet, knees and elbows. The rosemary and peppermint essential oils that scent this soap leave your skin feeling cool and refreshed.
Need a little extra exfoliation? This soap is now available in the Emmet Street Creations store on Etsy. They sell out quickly so get yours today!
