If you’ve been a reader of my past food posts, such as this recipe post for vegan chocolate chia pudding, you know I don’t have a big sweet tooth. Usually, I don’t crave candy but when there is a stocked candy bowl near me, it beckons me with its sugary, siren call and I can’t resist eating a piece or two (or twelve) of something chocolate.
I’m not alone, according to the National Confectioners Association, chocolate treats are the clear winner in the preferred Halloween candy haul. (Candy corn comes in second, ew.)
Since I’m not one of the 75% of U.S. households that plan to hand out candy tonight, I thought I’d share these Halloween treats instead:
- It’s predicted Americans will spend $2.5 billion dollars on Halloween candy.
- Candy corn is controversial. It will likely divide a household when the decision to purchase it or not is made: 52% consider it a must have, 48% don’t want to go near the stuff.
- Candy corn lovers: Is there a wrong way to eat candy corn?
- Apples are terrible Halloween “treats” (I have no statistics to back this up, but I presume it’s a universal truth).
However you choose to celebrate it, have a safe and happy Halloween! (And, don’t forget to brush your teeth after eating your sugary treats!)
